Fridays in February
The bar will open at 6:30PM, there will be appetizers and the talks will start promptly at 7:00PM. They will go until 9:00PM.
2/7 - Hal Mueller recently returned from his second voyage as trainee/crew member aboard a tall ship, covering about 8,000 miles. His first journey was aboard the British barkentine "Soren Larsen", which traveled from Vanuatu, via New Caledonia and Australia, to New Zealand. This fall he sailed aboard the Dutch bark "Europa" from Easter Island to the Falkland Islands, making Europa the first Dutch ship to "double" Cape Horn since 1911. Hal will bring photos and video footage of life aboard and of exotic destinations, both warm and cold.
2/14 - Valentine's Day. No Friday meeting.
2/21 - Keith Richards from West Marine will talk about Electrical systems.
2/28 - Russ Cohn will talk about anchoring, and Scott Rush of Neil Pryde Sails will discuss everything about cruising sails. More details.
Russ Cohn will be addressing the following questions in his talk on anchoring 101:
The discussions will be accompanied with picture charts, a graph or two and some simple equations.
March 15-16th - PMYC
Join CYC at the Port Madison Yacht Club. We are delighted to be able to use the Club House and are planning to have a pot luck on the premises. More information.
April 26-27th - Pizza Cruise in Kingston
Join CYC for what has become a traditional annual event for cruisers and racers alike.
We will meet in Kingston at the marina between 5-6 for drinks and then go to Bella Luna for Pizza. CYC invites, so please email Noemi since we'll need an approximate count.
Hope many of you can join us. It should be a fun weekend.
We'll be monitoring VHF Channel 68.
May 24-26th - Memorial Weekend
This year, our Memorial Day Cruise will feature our furthest destination, Sequim Bay. Please join us if you can on Friday, 5/23 at the Pt. Hudson Marina in Pt. Townsend. We're planning on eating out. Saturday we plan to sail to Sequim Bay and anchor or raft-up by the park. Weather permitting we could go for a stroll ashore on Sunday and for those who like clamming, we can go to the spit and dig up some big clams. Later, we can cook up a clam chowder on the "Tatiana", where we would meet for a pot luck.
June 14-15th - West side of Blake Island
Meet us on the West side of Blake Island for an overnight. Let's plan on arriving early on Saturday morning to grab either a buoy or the linear float. We'll gather for a pot luck and go ashore to explore the island.
July 3-6th - Poulsbø-Quartermaster Harbor, Gig Harbor
Join us for the fun filled July 4th weekend cruise! It will be full of surprises! (good ones! - maybe dinghy races (?) Plan on rafting up in Liberty Bay to watch the Norwegian July 3rd Fireworks if you're able to take the afternoon off. Otherwise, we'll meet on 7/4 in Quartermaster Harbor for more fireworks. The next day we move on to Gig Harbor Harbor where we plan on meeting at a restaurant (yet to be determined). Finally, we sail back home on 7/6.
July 19-20th - Lake Washington / Andrews Bay
For those boats able to get under the 520 bridge, join us for a cruise through the locks to Lake Washington's Andrews Bay. Here is a chance to flush your engine with fresh water and practice your whistle blowing skills. Since it takes about 6-7 hours to reach Andrews Bay, plan on leaving early Saturday morning. We will anchor and explore the shore and return to Seattle on Sunday.
August 9-10th - Commodore - Gibson
Let's do it again! Hopefully this year with some wind to start the race to Pt. Ludlow… Join us on this fun race starting at Meadow Point buoy and ending in Pt. Ludlow. Winners will be awarded with fabulous prices! Please have your ratings available for distribution and negotiations! We will stay at the Pt. Ludlow Marina and have a pot luck at the barbecue pit. Bring whatever you wish to barbecue… Please call the Port Ludlow Marina at (360) 437-0513 to reserve your slip. Tell them you are with CYC.
August 30 - September 7th - Port Townsend, Mystery Bay and race in Pt. Townsend Bay.
Plus (9/5-7) Wooden Boat Festival
Extended cruise staring in Port Townsend. We'll wind our way to Mystery Bay the next day and anchor out and explore the are. We will return to Port Townsend for some races in the bay. For those who have to go to work, please join us in Pt. Townsend on 9/5 to participate in the Wooden Boat Festival. Details to follow.
October 25-26th - Fog Cruise to Bainbridge Island
Meet us for this fall cruise to Bainbridge Island. We have secured 150 feet of dock in Eagle Harbor on the city dock (47°-37.29’ N 122°-31.06’ W) and rafting is recommended. We'll have appetizers on the Tatiana when the boats have gathered mid afternoon, and we'll all go to dinner at the Harbor Public House around 6:00PM. Since the restaurant doesn't take reservations we'll chance it. Last year we didn't have to wait too long.
November 8-9th - Dinner Cruise to Edmonds
We have reservations at ARNIE's restaurant for November 8 @ 7:00 PM. Noemi will let you know if she is able to secure reservations in the marina for the boats that are going. Otherwise, you should not have any trouble getting a slip this time of year.
Please RSVP to Noemi so she can reserve the right number of places.
For those who do not want to freeze because, unlike Noemi, they don't have two fireplaces on their boat, it is ok to drive a car, take a train, ride a bike, walk, etc.... to Edmonds.
November 18th - Planning meeting for 2004
Note Date change from 13 to 18 Nov. 7:00PM at the CYC Shilshole clubhouse. Come prepared to share your favorite cruising grounds and where you would like to cruise next summer.
December 31 - January 1th - New Year's Eve Cruise
New Addition to the Schedule
Join your CYC Cruising friends to celebrate New Year's Eve in Port Madison. In past years, New Year's Eve in Port Madison was a CYC tradition. We will have a potluck dinner, games, yarns, and a potluck breakfast in the nice warm clubhouse. We have the use of PMYC's clubhouse and any available moorage for this CYC activity, and we have enough money left in the Cruising Budget to provide a spiral cut ham for the potluck.
