Anchoring and Cruising Sails Seminar

February 28, 2003

Join CYC¹s cruisers for an evening of education.

At 7 P.M., veteran cruiser Russ Cohn will give an introduction to anchoring. Russ will talk about why and when an anchor will drag, how to increase anchoring capability, trade-offs to minimize anchor system weights and finally how to calculate drag forces.

Following anchoring, at about 7:30, Scott Rush of Neil Pryde Sails will give a comprehensive presentation on cruising sails. Topics covered include what to look for in cruising sail construction and design, particularly with regards to specialized cruising sails such as furling headsails and asymmetrical cruising spinnakers and their associated equipment. Cruising sail trim will also be highlighted. Rush, a tremendously experienced and successful racer, is also a cruiser and can give a large number of tips on making the sailing part of cruising faster, more in control and more fun.

Come early and meet the growing Corinthian Yacht Club cruising community. The bar will be open at 6:30 P.M.
