The Rookie Rally provides opportunities for keelboat skippers and crew to experience a fun, low-pressure introduction to sailboat racing. Topics include review of the Racing Rules of Sailing, sail trim and boat speed techniques, starting practice, basic tactics and strategy, and skipper and crew skill development. The format is classroom activities in the mornings followed by on-the-water activities in the afternoons. Classroom instruction is provided by local experts, and CYC will attempt to provide for a coach for each participating sailboat. Entry fee for the Rookie Rally includes registration for one Wednesday evening series of racing at CYC.
The Leschi One Design Clinic provides classroom instruction on Friday evening and Saturday morning, followed by on-water drills and practice racing. Coaching is provided by local experts using chase boats. The One Design clinic is for both sailors new to racing as well as experienced racers interested in brushing up on their skills.
