2001 Rookie Rally

The Rookie Rally offers a chance for skippers and crew to learn about and sample sailboat racing. Its purpose is to encourage sailors to race their boats and have fun. Topics include a review of the racing rules, sail trim, starting techniques and helming. Particpants of the Rookie Rally are encouraged to sail in their own start during the next CYC Evening series.

The Sound Rookie Rally is scheduled for June 23 & 24. This event is being held for the 13th time and is for PHRF type boats. The cost of the Sound Rookie Rally is $45 for CYC members and $65 for non-members. The registration price includes the entry fee in one Wednesday Evening Series on the Sound. On the sound, mornings are spent in the classroom with experts like Dick Rose and Chuck Skewes. Afternoons are spent on the water in your own boats with on-board racing coaches. Videos are taken and viewed in the clubhouse after each days racing.

The Lake Rookie Rally is scheduled for May 12. This event is new for 2001 and is designed for two or more person centerboard dinghies, although larger boats are welcome. The cost of the Lake Rookie Rally is $25 for CYC members and $40 for non-members. The registration includes the entry fee in one Evening Series on the Lake. On the lake, the day will be divided between classroom review of racing rules and tecniques and on the water practice sessions and mini-races.

Leukemia Cup

The 6th annual Leukemia Cup Fundraising Regatta is scheduled for June 2. This one day event is all about raising funds for the Leukemia Society while having fun racing sailboats. Skippers and crews spend the weeks leading up to the regatta solicitating donations and arranging for corporate sponsor signs for their boats.

Racing on Saturday consists of buoy races for one-design and PHRF boats and a mid-distance race for those who want to participate at a more relaxed pace.

After racing there will be a party and prize giving in the clubhouse. Prizes will be awarded for fundraising achievements and race results.
